List Building – What You Should Know

by Chris Morris on July 31, 2009

Internet marketing tools and techniques that are available to get your business in the spotlight, can only be effective if you have readers or visitors that are looking at your material. Therein lay the art of list building and the benefits that can be gained by optimizing the content and articles that your prospective readers are seeking. There doesn’t have to be a lot of time and energy put into the process of building your customer following. However, there are a few simple steps that are sure to get you started and to afford the optimal results that you are seeking when list building.

Many experts claim that article writing is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site (or squeeze page) and with a minimal amount of effort and time invested. This is a killer way to drive traffic that is targeted to your squeeze pages and hopefully get them to opt-in to join your list.

When you are an established marketer what you may want to consider is looking at your current lists and find the products and services that those former buyers are seeking or email a survey to them in order to gain some type of direction about where your niche is headed (and what they’re interested in.) This can help you target new articles toward these same interests and hopefully cast your “net” to grab some new leads looking for this kind of information.

What you can do is write laser-targeted articles that offer your reader value and information…and if they want more? Just send them to your squeeze page to learn more. Here you can capture their information like name and email and get them to their desired information. You get a targeted lead and they get the information they want. You must repeat this process over and over with the same or similar methods of generating traffic. This will help you to build tons of leads and grow your list.

While informing your clients of the products you’re offering is most important, you must also be willing to gather information that will help you in future list building or product offerings. The key is to find what will benefit them and to build a relationship with your listed clients, give them factual information and allow them to feel confident in selecting you as the vendor of choice (i.e. when you go to promote something to them, they’ll want to buy it from YOU).

The process can be time consuming if you allow yourself to get caught up in the details, however, if you are forthright and consistent in allowing the client to see the best and keep insisting they are missing out if they don’t buy your products, odds are they will become not only part of your client list, but part of your returning customer base.

Article writing doesn’t have to take a ton of time and you don’t have to come up with a ton of topics. If you use this method, you can write on four or five topics and end up with eight to twenty different articles. This will put tons of articles out there to get you maximum exposure and drive a lot of traffic to your squeeze page. You know, those are the best types of internet marketing tools—ones that are effective and save you time!

Hey Suresh Kanal,

Cpanel is a website control panel ( management system ) that allows you to manage your website from a convenient and organized central location.

CPanel is usually found on unix flavor servers and is the popular choice for website management software.

My Discover Cpanel course is not a list building course but extremely focused on step by step website management using CPanel.

You can get a free copy of our Webmail video by visiting DiscoverCpanel.com and then we’ll give you an opportunity to customize your order with an opportunity to select our entire Cpanel video library for a very special discount rate.

Hey Chris,
Great post. Article writing is very effective for building your list.
We just have to remember about keyword optamization, to make sure we get targeted readers.

Keith deBolt July 31, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Hey, Chris-

Good, simple, easy to do advice here on list building. You are right- list building is one thing we should always be focusing on.

All the fancy gizmos and ‘creators’ and ‘spinners’ and ‘automators’ that people keep putting out will never replace a little elbow grease… an article, a video, a blog post, a WSO- the things that truly brand us as we build our business. Great advice!

@Jeanette – Why thank you Jeanette :)
You’re absolutely right, knowing what keywords to use and using LSI keywords are very important for ranking factors. Great point!

@Keith deBolt – Hey man, long time :) You really need to connect with me again dude, it’s been too long since we spoke.

You know what, I’m not 100% against automation, just spammy automation. Automation ‘can’ be an asset if you’re using it in a WhiteHat way. But you’re right, nothing beats the hard work of manual labor Keith…great post!

Glad to hear from everyone and PLEASE keep them coming…I LOVE to hear from my friends :D

I don’t quite understand this IT jargon..lol I built my own website in Publisher and still need to figure out how to get it on my domain…when times are tough you have to do it yourself…I’m impress with the website, but would like to put a facility in it to actually obtain such list you are talking about.

Chris Morris August 1, 2009 at 10:49 am

Hey Maggie,

I’ve never used Publisher to create a website but I did some research on it and here is what I found:

Step 1 – go to File

Step 2 – Go to Publish to the Web

Step 3 – Click the Save in drop down menu and choose Add/Modify FTP location

Step 4 – Type in the name of your server i.e. www. yoursite .com

Step 5 – Click User and type in your username.

Step 6 – Type in your password

Step 7 – Click Add

Step 8 – Click Ok

Step 9 – From the drop down box click your newly added site, if not already selected.

Step 10 – Pick a place on your webserver to save your file.

Step 11 – Click ok

Step 12 -Your page should now be live!

Article marketing is a great way of delivering valuable content and getting visitors to buy into your business and brand and to develop the relationship with them through your list and related communications.
Some useful tips here, keep up the good work!!

Narek Gabrielyan October 2, 2009 at 9:25 pm

Wow! These are really good points. Your readers must be very happy to have you share these with them. When you look at article writing from that perspective, it makes it so much easier.
